Brazil Ride

The 5th edition of Brazil Ride 2014 started this Sunday (19.10) in Mucugê (BA) with the aim of stimulating sports, tourism and leisure in the region of Chapada Diamantina – Bahia.

“Brazil Ride is a test that any government wants to attract to its region, especially here in Chapada Diamantina, a region that is characteristic of tourism, but also very linked to agricultural production. So, by giving visibility to the region, and that is what Brazil Ride allows, the impact is immediate, not only from the economic point of view, since we are with 100% occupation in Mucugê and region, but the impact for the development of the Sport is even greater. The fact that big names of world cycling come here, especially mountain biking, this gives a very great projection to this modality, on an eve of the Olympics, this is even more relevant “comments Mr. Nilton Vasconcellos, Secretary of Labor, Employment, Income and Sport of the State of Bahia.

The Brasil Ride 2014 opened its activities with breakfast of the “Guarinis” at the Fazenda do Café Mucugê, in honor of the athletes who participate in at least 3 times in the competition. Guarini means warrior-fighter in the Tupi-Guarani language.

Then it was the turn of the spectacle seen in the sky to inspire the cyclists! The paraglider Rafael Goberna, one of the best pilots in the world, made a show of acrobatics with his paraglider to the joy of the public and athletes. There was still a presentation of the group of cangaceiros in honor of Lampião, a northeastern Brazilian character who is part of Brazilian culture.

In terms of competition, the first 20 kilometers of course of about 600 km in 7 days of pedal, cyclists faced all kinds of terrain and condition, such as narrow tracks, many rocks, stretches of sand, forming a super technical circuit in the surroundings Of the city. For the fastest team – “pole position” – was awarded the most special prize: outdoor replica helmet of Australian Mark Webber, former Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver, author of 13 pole positions and winner of nine Formula Prix Grand Prix 1.

Trek Factory Racing team riders literally flew on the track, setting the best day mark in 51 minutes and 47 seconds.

“Today is just the first day of the race, there is a whole competition ahead, the idea today was to try to do a good time, but I knew that they had very fast doubles, like the current champions Avancini and Shermann who are reference,” explains The three-time Brazilian champion Ricardo Pscheidt of the team Trek Factory Racing.

“It was a circuit of pure cross-country, very technical, very complete with a lot of pedal and that requires a lot of the physical part. This is my specialist and I felt apt for this event,”added Sérgio Mantecón, considered one of the best in the world in the Olympic cross country.

The team with numeral 1, Caloi Elite formed by Henrique Avancini and Sherman Trezza, also left strong:

“We started with the goal of making the best possible prologue to try to get the” yellow shirt “at the beginning. So we really went to the limit and I think that agent ended up missing a little bit the pace, Sherman took a strong fall and we ended up losing a lot of time,”explains Avancini.”Now we are going to do a more cadenciada test, Sherman is a guy that grows gradually in the day of the test so I think there is still a lot of ground ahead.”

In the feminine, Brazil Ride 2014 promises the biggest race of all time, already the best Brazilian cyclists face, on Bahia soil, the world elite:

“It’s always good to compete in Brazil and the advantage is very great. Issues such as travel, food, and culture from other countries interfere greatly in a competition, and in Brazil we are with friends, family, boyfriend … that are a great motivation and encouragement during the race. Compete Brazil Ride, as S2 class in Brazil, is too important in the search for these precious points in the ranking,”explains the Brazilian MTB champion XCO Isabella Lacerda.

“Brazil Ride will be fundamental in the search for the Olympic vacancy, because they are 80 points in the UCI Ranking. In addition to scoring the nation, the individual points are very important, since Brazil’s criteria for the Olympics will be the athlete who wins the most points in the Olympic ranking that began in May 2014 and ends May 2016. With the presence of several Foreign athletes the level of the competition increases even more and this provides a direct improvement in the development of the Brazilian athletes,”adds Isabella who competes alongside Érika Gramiscelli, a Brazilian five-time champion who competed in Brazil Ride 2010.

However, the Topeak Ergon North Americans did not give a chance on this 1st day of the MTB Ultramarathon: “Brazil Ride has changed her life since the first edition I participated in 2010,” said Sonya Looney who participates for the third time in Mountain biking in Chapada Diamantina – Bahia. “It was magnificent. You’re an animal,”added Nina Baum, team-mate Topeak Ergon, who were the fastest women of the day, with official overtime of 55 minutes and 40 seconds.

The biggest mountain bike challenge in Latin America offers this opportunity for professional and amateur athletes: a unique experience in the heart of the country, with seven days of pedaling, self-knowledge and contact with nature. In all, there are 9 “leader shirts” in search of the title, divided into Men, Women, Mixed, Master (above 40 years), Grand Master (over 50 years), Men’s America, Corporate America, and Nelore. Makes his debut for cyclists over 90 pounds.

The second day of Brazil Ride will have a 147km route between Mucugê and Rio de Contas, with a total of 3355 meters of accumulated climbs.
