All products Google there are people who send questionable content of images and, when reported, are sent to an official review and judge whether it is bad or not content. In fact, Google has several employees only for this, specifically hired to deal with what the company calls “sensitive content”. One of them, in an interview with BuzzFeed website reported how this dreadful experience is.
The official, who did not have his name revealed for obvious reasons, said that on any given day he could see about 15 thousand images of varying degrees of questionable content. What kind of content? “Bestiality, necrophilia, mutilation of body parts, explicit fetishes and pornography child,” says the anonymous employee. He needs to do this because in the case of child pornography, for example, the law requires that the company hosting the content take air images up to 24 hours.
He goes on to say that “no one wanted to do [this work] within the Google”, so the company turned to temporary contracts. In the case of this particular employee, he stayed for nine months doing the same thing every day, something he says “put me in a very dark place.” He took care products like Picasa, Google Images and Orkut, but there were other officials responsible for this on YouTube.
The moment he realized he needed therapy was when Google recommended a test with a federal agent:
“SHE SHOWED ME PHOTOS OF SEEMINGLY HARMLESS ACTIVITIES AND ASKED ME WHAT WAS MY FIRST REACTION TO SEEING A CERTAIN IMAGE. I SAID “THAT’S DISGUSTING!” IS WAS JUST A PARENT WITH A CHILD.”
It is worth reading the entire interview, if only to put into perspective that while his job is boring, it does not get to be as traumatizing.
