Accessing and controlling a computer from your mobile phone can be very useful, especially if you work in the IT area and need to be always prepared to solve a problem remotely. The old VNC was one of the most common ways of free remote access , but with the heavy Windows interfaces and especially with Aero enabled, some incompatibilities of VNC have made the same lose market for other tools. One of these tools is based on the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) that you may not know about but is the basis of the Windows Remote Desktop service.
Having RDP enabled on your computer you need to use an RDP client to connect to the computer. On Android an excellent RDP client is Remote RDP Lite. It is quick and easy to use, allowing remote screen zooming and making it easy to click on small buttons or even text from the phone screen. I’ve tested several and this was without a doubt the best. Even on low speed 3G connections the result was acceptable and I had no problems using the remote computer. I also use a Motorola A853 (Milestone) that is not the latest generation and Remote RDP worked very well.
Remote RDP allows you to save the remote connections to your device, including the password, so that the connection is made quickly with just one click. It is perfect for when remote access is urgent and you have no way to look for a reliable computer to use. It is certainly safer and more agile than using a lan house or a computer possibly compromised by viruses in the house of some relative!
Visit the Android Market and download Remote RDP Lite, which is free. There is also a paid version with more features that certainly is worth the purchase for those who need a lot of the tool!
