Geography

According to topschoolsintheusa, Montenegro is located in south-eastern Europe on the Adriatic Sea. The relatively sparsely populated country borders Serbia in the north, Kosovo in the east, Albania in the southeast and Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia in the west. Montenegro is a small mountainous region on the Adriatic Sea and is located in the Southeast Dinarides. In the north are the central high mountain massifs, the Durmitor with the highest mountain in Montenegro, the Bobotov Kuk (2,522 m) and the Prokletije massif, the highest peaks in the country. The short Adriatic coast includes the port town of Bar and the Bay of Kotor.

Government

Parliamentary democracy, constitution of 2007. Montenegro has been an independent state since February 4, 2003. Before that, Montenegro was the smaller republic of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Between February 4, 2003 and May 21, 2006, Montenegro was part of the Confederation of Serbia and Montenegro. On May 21, 2006, as a result of the referendum, the country left the state union of Serbia and Montenegro and has since been a state independent of Serbia. The formal declaration of independence by the Montenegrin parliament took place on June 3, 2006.

Overview

We recommend carpets, embroidery, lace, leather work, sneakers, pec filigree work, metal work and Turkish tea sets.

Shop opening times: Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Sat 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Department stores and supermarkets in larger cities and tourist centers are usually open all day (Mon-Sat 8 am-8pm). Some supermarkets also open on Sunday mornings.

NIGHTLIFE

Introduction

In the larger cities and holiday resorts there is a varied nightlife with bars, nightclubs, cinemas and theaters. Cinemas are open until 11 p.m., nightclubs until 3 a.m. and restaurants until midnight.

Hotels

Deluxe hotels are mainly available in some holiday resorts on the coast in Montenegro and especially on the exclusive holiday island of Sveti Stefan. Hotels in the other categories often offer very limited service. The best hotels are often fully booked. Advance booking is strongly recommended. More information from Monte Adria (see addresses). Categories: Deluxe, A-, B-, C- and D-Class. 1st, 2nd and 3rd class pensions can be found everywhere. Guest houses that also offer rooms can be found on most of the main streets. Further information is available from travel agencies and tourist information centers.

Religion

The main religious communities are Christians (especially the Montenegrin Orthodox Church (74.2%), but also Catholics (3.5%)) and Muslims (17.7%).

CLIMATE

Best travel time

The climate in Montenegro is Mediterranean and mild, the vegetation is subtropical. In summer, Mediterranean temperatures are reached on the Adriatic coast. The winter on the coast is mild and without snow and the summer is dry and hot. Autumn is usually very mild and spring often starts very early. In the hinterland of Montenegro there is a more continental climate with snowfall in winter.
